Faunsdale, AL | I’ve gotten myself into a situation with an old Kinze planter!
I have had older JD planters that were mostly use in full tillage but the last one 1730 8 row with MaxEmerge Plus row units has done more and more no-til. It’s showing the results in cracked shanks but hasn’t been awful. Mostly the two outer units on the 3 point hitch planter which I suppose is from turning with it in the ground. Obviously I’m doing too much of that, but the others have had some cracks too, just not as bad.
Now I’ve got this old 2600 Kinze 16/31 and the front/pusher units are running me ragged. Obviously (now it’s obvious!) I’m turning too much. But I don’t think these shanks are even up to the old JD standard. Temporary solution is a lot of welding (and stop planting around corners. Didn’t think I was abusing it but being twice as wide as the biggest planter I’ve ever run before, I was wrong.
When did JD and Kinze introduce a shank that’s really up to no-til? | |
