Southwestern Minnesota | Weight loss plateaus are frustrating, especially when you are really working on it and don't see results. It seems like it should be a fairly straightforward process, but there are many variables that can be at play. For example, thyroid function or medications can have an impact. Insulin resistance like John has said can play a big role. Also, your own personal metabolism can be a factor.
Our body protects itself from "starving" by lowering our metabolism. When that happens, even if you eat less, your body resists losing more weight by lowering your metabolism.
When you say you've had a "spectacular" weight loss and have been on a "very strict ultra low carb diet, plus One Meal A Day" this may be related to metabolism. If that were the case, the solution wouldn't be to become even more restrictive with an extended fast. (just my dietitian opinion). | |
