and I still maintain there is thousands to times more "information" that China, or anyone, could use that's gathered by cell phones in many ways. Most (you have to choose words carefully here) cell phones have origins in China, or the Orient somehow. No one is talking about banning them, just Chinese drones.

Most US cell phones have their origins in the US. Foxconn which is a taiwan company, is actually starting to move production out of china to India.

In reality, there is not much opportunity to inject 'spy' software into say an iPhone simply because apple designs the chips, and the software, and they make sure what they installed is actually on the phone. Google phones are the same way. Samsung which is a S. Korean company, trashes Googles Android operating system (and destroys a nice user interface), to install their own stuff that they may actually be collecting data. Motorola (and lenovo) are chinese company that very well could add security breaches. Lenovo actually had some spyware in their recovery tools partition on their laptops.

If you wipe the computer and install your own software, the risk goes way down. Or just throw out the control board and use something where you can install your own software say in the case of a drone. Modding drones is pretty much expected.
