Amherst WI | A gentleman called the other day and wanted me to combine 50 acres of corn for him and I turned it down.
He's about 10 miles away, and if I was doing the whole job myself (trucking as well) it would take me at least 2 days to do. 15 years ago I would have been all over that with a $3900 1460. Today with a 6130 by the time I drove there and back I would have $250 in just depreciation, a newer combine would even be worse. Makes me wonder how these custom guys really get ahead because all of these equipment costs are eating our lunches. Even with older stuff you can't walk out of the dealership for under $1000 of parts.
