chirpfarm - 9/9/2024 13:17 I once got into a debate on here with someone who had to be an old-timer about this rule. He insisted that the rule was valuable because a man should be proud of his name and that a man who'd use a fake name isn't someone he wanted to talk to anyways. He couldn't comprehend that most of the listed names in TPP are probably fake and that he had no way of knowing what was real and what wasn't. He had no clue how little the internet cares about honor.
And its really not about being proud of your name or whatever. Its about minimizing identifying factors on the internet, every piece of 'real' info I put out there is one more thing (hackers/scammers/haters/dictators/etc) can use to track me down. Think if I have my real name on here, and I probably registered with my main/only email address. Someone hacks/subpoena's the site, they now have the real name associated with my email address. Check that address against other websites/hacked databases and they can build an entire profile on me all because I wanted to participate in political discourse. As I say that I realize my email address *is* my name, my opsec isn't so good lol

So I take it you guys NEVER do any business on line where you have to give them your real name, real physical address, real phone number, real credit card number and a real email address.       Oh, the horror.

Some of you guys I swear are scared of your own shadow.
