Central Mo | This is something I seem to to have a lot of trouble with. I have pretty decent luck treating it by cleaning the hoof with a garden hose and making sure there isn’t anything stuck between the claws. Then I coat it with Coppertox and give a dose of LA300. I think the LA300 does more than the cleaning and coppertox. If I have one that I’ve let go too long and I see swelling in the joint, I will call the Vet and he’ll have me give them a stronger antibiotic. Now this is usually what my vet calls foot rot, I can’t answer for the abscesses but always assumed it was the same. But I’m far from an expert.
I have been told that this is not genetic but I’m kinda suspect that it is, I try to not keep any heifers out of cows that have had it. | |
