What is equipment cost per head for feeding around 700 head? We use a TMR truck, articulated loader and Vertical beater spreader. Feed on 4 different farms ( don't want too many in one spot) so tractor mixer is to much labor/time. Interest and deprecation on those 3 pieces cost me about $58 per head. If I up grade to new I figure it will cost me about $70 per head. Are those numbers in line with others? Yards are their weather I use them or not. You say What.... Dennis

I feed with a tractor, a TMR, a vertical beater spreader, and an articulated loader. Tractor was purchased used, rest was new. I'm at $49.00 a head per year based on 600 momma cows. I just went through this with my accountant. 7 year planned use, with 50% residual value remaining. Cattle income has paid cash for each item, so no interest expense. But if tractor goes down, that will change.......

My true machinery cost per head is larger, as it should include a portion of our side-by-side, skidloader, excavator, dozer, pickup truck, etc to the cattle, and row crops, and land clearing. But the above number is for those four must-have pieces for cattle feeding only as you asked about.
