Wisconsin | If you have a battery that shorted a cell, so 10 or 11V, you can use a multimeter through the holes to tell which cell is dead, then a screw into the connecting bar will get you one good 6V battery out of the half that is still good, can even charge it with a 12v charger and a light bulb in series if you don't have a 6v charger.
