Central Coast, California | I think that video sales are a great marketing tool for maximizing the return on the top end of your cattle. I will say that I am in California and most cattle get on trucks going way out of state.
My herd is to small so I have never sold anything in a video sale but I usually help ship a few ranches every year. None of them use superior but mostly because other companies have more reps in our area.
A couple things to keep in mind.
1. You are selling load lots.
2. They will cut any problem calves.
3. It is several weeks between sale and shipping.
I've seen places with smaller numbers sell split loads. When I pencil it until you get numbers to make at least 2 loads I'm not sure it's worth it. Also you will have not a small portion that won't make the load due to being too big or too small or wrong color or bad eye.... And so on so you still end up sending your bottom end to the sale barn.
But if your setup for it I really do think it's the best way to get top dollar for the better part of your calves. |
