When shares of stock split, the two halves do not become worth less than the whole. Stocks go up and stocks will go down, just as split stocks will move in comparison. Splitting shares does not make a company worth less. Think of Bitcoin as a stock investment.
No, do not think of a bitcoin as a stock investment. Stocks are called shares because you’re supposed to be trading a little piece of ownership of a company, which is a real thing- buildings, railroad tracks, machinery, concrete, steel, etc. At least that’s how it’s supposed to be anyway, that’s what got people to believe in stocks. Companies that sold shares and had nothing physical to show for it didn’t traditionally do well once found out.
Now with intellectual property, blue sky, etc figured into company valuations, you could maybe make a case that the stock market is also now trading beliefs, not things, but that’s a whole different discussion.
