edgerton ks. | We seed immediately after making beds for strawberries. Used to use annual rye grass, however we cover our berries with floating row covers over winter here. Underneath the cover annual rye grows all winter and is quite the wooly tall mess when we uncover in spring. Makes it difficult to get things under control. We have recently switched to using perennial rye, what ever is the cheapest lawn blend they have. It actually is much greener and stays short, which requires less mowing. Usually seed 30 to 50 lbs an acre, nothing real accurate. Three point spin spreader after plastic is laid before you poke holes with planting run a leaf blower over them to blow off all seed into row middles. Rye will easily germinate on top after first shower. Good luck.
