What are the good points and bad points about a John Deere 230 disk harrow. I found one the size I need and a decent price close by me. Will be used as a first pass machine but don't want to ridge up the field. Thanks for your help.

We own one, pull it with a John Deere 4630. For starters you don’t want to buy one that has the yellow gangs, they are light duty disk. Do you want black gangs .

If you don’t do a good job adjusting them, they will ridge or valley depending on your field conditions. The ground is hard up here where we live so we have done nothing but replace blades on the front gangs as they are not strong enough for how aggressive it cuts. I just ordered 28 new discs from Worthington ag parts that are 3/16 thickness instead of the 1/8 thickness that comes on the factory. Maybe if you were just using it to farm in some corn stocks in the fall or something on an already broken field, But not for cutting new fields.

I probably would not buy the same disk again
