GS2 - 11/25/2024 03:17 How do you determine what an old REC power pole can hold, if you wanted to build a building with them? We have a couple built out of REC and telephone poles, but that was two generations ago, so that knowledge is gone.

It all depends on the quality of the "Old" poles  . . . . ..  The ones around here are very dried out and open grained with very little structural strength when pulled out of service (hence, that is why the power company is replacing them - very little strength left). Best use with them is to try and saw a couple 2x6 or 2x4's out of each. Otherwise, look at how your older buildings are built and copy. New poles could be used like new structural columns, if your building code allows . . . .
