I use a Rhino parabolic single ripper to cut roots around field edges. The heavy duty one goes about 2 foot deep.
When I first started couple years ago, constantly broke shear bolts on roots big as my leg.
Gets easier every year, this year was first with no sheared bolts.

I also attached a mole to it and can drain wet spots fairly well if I can start in a ditch or low spot.
