Northern Indiana | That’s funny to me to read. 8 years ago we had a 1770nt, 16 row box planter, ground drive, chains all around, finger pickups, spring downforce, pin adjust row cleaners, ground drive fertilizer pump, as basic as you could get, it only needed one hydraulic remote to run it. And it was one year old rebuild (chains, sprockets, bearings on the drives, double disk openers, new fertilizer openers, new fertilizer boots, new bearings and row cleaners) and nobody wanted it. Dealer didn’t want it. But we knew in the back of our mind that of course there are people out there that want that type of setup. If all else fails our open station 4050 could plant corn with it and wouldn’t even need a monitor. We were just looking to move to an exact emerge because a bunch of land had come available to us and we thought we needed the increased capacity of high speed. Anyway, we eventually realized we were the ones that want a planter setup like that. So we found its twin and gave it the same makeover and had 2 “new” rebuilt planters for less than half of an exact emerge.
Since then they’ve been outfitted with Agleader hydraulic downforce, electric drives, hydraulic fertilizer and rebuilt again. All in total was just a little over what the initial upgrade was going to be and we still have 2 instead of one. Lots of ways to skin the cat | |
