Personally I am glad deals with Mexico and Canada were reached. But after all this discussion here over the weekend... is this what everyone wanted or were some of you actually hoping for the tariffs?

I'm not sure what Trump believes. It seems like he holds no strong convictions actually. Sometimes he talks like he genuinely believes in tariffs as good policy, but then today it was quite clear it was a strong arm tool to negotiate with.

I'm guessing most of you are like me and are relieved it was the latter. Is anyone actually wanting the tariffs to go into effect in 30 days on Canada and Mexico?

I never thought that the tariffs would be permanent, but rather used like a 'big stick' to get what he wanted.
I posted a day or two ago that I wouldn't be surprised if the whole tariff thing was for show, and deals would be reached quickly, just giving the leaders of each country a chance to declare at least a partial victory.
Trump gets to strut around like a bantee rooster that his tariffs worked, the leaders of Mexico and Canada get to talk about how they held fast to the last moment, and didn't give Trump everything he was asking for.
That said, I also would say that Trump got the better end of the deal both ways because he has more chips to play, and both Mexico and Canada knew it.
