You can zoom in and think of this at the State, County, or household level even. We could all grow all our own food and make all our own homemade tools. But if we all trade with one another, we all will end up being more productive and having a higher standard of living.
I pay more to buy a lot of things American because I trust the quality to be better. But a lot of things it just doesn't make sense to buy American because the quality is not different enough to justify the cost to most. Clothing for example.
Importing goods is not promoting another country over our own - it is freeing up our own nation to produce higher value added products. It is also freeing up consumers to have greater buying power, thereby growing our domestic economy faster.
I agree 100%, but I think what you leave out is holding other countries to fair trade. Most of these countries are protecting sectors of their own by not allowing items in that the U.S. might be making more economical. Also, the climate change ageements are just a way to punish success and shift power away from the U.S. I have no illusians that trump is perfect, but after decades of liberal and chrony control of our systems and the less than stellar position it has put us in, I grant him a wide swath to try it his way and will judge based on the results in a few years. All the libturds and rinos are trying to jump on every little blip or perceived blip and it mostly makes them fools.
