Draft of cold air descending down the flue? Cold air drops, warm air rises. Does it happen on windy days or calm days? Whenever I light my fireplace if the air is calm or very light wind I can feel cold air dropping down the flue. Then I have to place a fan in front of the fireplace to send warm air up, otherwise the descending air traps the smoke in the firebox.
