I think the idea behind them is you get results and taste similar to deep frying in oil while using much less oil and less oil residue on the food. Without the mess and use of excess oil use compared to deep frying in oil. Maybe a teaspoon or tablespoon of oil compared to a quart or more required to deep fry.
