Obviously variety/flex.
But somewhere it boils down to where, or how far north you are.
Not sure where to draw the Mason/Dixon line for corn? But from a gazillion of these population threads, guys to the south or middle can get 10 bushel or better to 1K seed, while northern guys like Minnesota can't, or almost nobody can there.
