One positive I could envision with such a drastic move, and don’t kid yourself, it would be drastic, would be to convert as many of these acres as feasible to energy grasses such as switchgrass. Switch is an outstanding “solar battery” harnessing sunlight and converting to available BTU’s. My vision would be to bring back the short lived BCAP program to incentivize landowners to convert, as it takes a couple years before switch becomes fully established. I would build a pellitizing plant to condense the bales into highly condensed pellets to be put on rail cars and shipped to coal fired electric generating facilities to be co-fired. This process could produce much more steady, reliable electricity than fickle solar and wind, at a fraction of the cost.
