North Dakota | I have a couple of questions for anyone that has has a colon resection or had part of their colon removed. I am scheduled to have about 1/4 of the first part of my colon removed on Monday. Reason is there is a polyp that cannot be removed with a colonoscopy. I have had a colonoscopy every 5 years for the past 20 years and my last on was three years ago and there were only a couple small ones that they removed at that time. I have had two in the last month and both the local, small town Dr. that does about 20 colonoscopies a month and a surgeon in a larger hospital were not able to remove it. I am late 60's and don't want it turning into cancer in 5-10 years so out it goes.
I only know a couple of local people that have had it done, one had it done when he was in his late 40's and said that he was back to light work in 2 weeks. I also know a man in his late 70's that said it almost did him in. Was a month before he could take care of himself. He is a widower so had to have home health come in everyday.
First, how long did it take to get back to some level of regularity (if you know what I mean) and was it easy to adjust to?
Second, how much pain were you in? As in could you get up and take care of yourself in a week or was it a month before you were able to go to the bathroom and get yourself dressed alone?
Third, now that you have had it done, is there anything you would have done differently?
