Central Minnesota
I stand by my answer and I was actually being conservative. The same guy who was farming the land that’s now in CRP for $290/acre was renting a piece of land less than a mile away for $85/acre in 2022. Another close by neighbor rents his land(probably better than the $290/acre CRP land)out for $120/acre to an organic farmer. This is first hand information last fall. It yields 120-150 bushel corn. Sandy loam with lots of rocks and hills.

Why don’t I put my land in CRP? Great question, financially I should but I’d have to take it out of pasture that has buried water lines and is all fenced for rotational grazing. By the time I farm it for 3 years and try to enroll in CRP what will the rates be?

Also,it’s steep, the guy I bought the land from said when he farmed it he’d have to start plowing on top of the hill and hook his tire in the furrow to keep from sliding down the hill. He said things got interesting when he got a rock and it popped the front end out of the furrow.Another story he told was when he picked corn, the tractor would be on one row, the picker down another row and the wagon below that. I’ve dug put a couple of fence posts that only had a couple of inches showing. Yes, my land has all been in CRP at one time or another.
