East River SoDak | You are speaking truth even though it is contrary to what the mainstream is saying. Everyone talks about frame creeping up on cows, unless you intentionally keep power and some extra frame in angus they will creep down. I’m one of the few in our area that still runs a straight angus commercial herd. I seek out growth and have avoided “moderate” since it became a buzzword and I can’t hardly get my mature cows above 1400 lbs in their working clothes. Most others around are still black but they have a percentage sim or gelbvieh in them to add some frame and bone because the mainstream straight angus alone now aren’t doing it. You sit in the sale barn and talk to buyers and the first thing they look at when a group runs in the ring is if they have enough frame. This is central and eastern nd and sd, western mn, nw Iowa that I’m familiar with. These small frame bulls are being pushed by the industry but it’s not what people want in my circle | |
