East Central SD | I had the lower portion of my colon and part of my rectum removed due to stage 4 cancer, and while healthy, my gut activity will never be normal. My Mom has 12" of her upper colon removed over 20 years ago, no long term issues for her. There is a big difference between removing upper or lower parts of the colon. General surgeons will do the upper, it takes a specialist to cut on the lower. If I remember right, there were only 2 in SD qualified to do my surgery, and after the one passed on the challenge, I went to Mayo. | |
