Thumb of Michigan
Chelation is necessary to prevent tie-up with phosphorus and sulfur. Or in a mix with fungicides, herbicides and insecticide.
Some weak chelated products will still interact with thiosul and phosphorus and flakes or clumps form, or even a film on tanks and hoses.

Chelation has nothing to do with plant uptake- either through roots or leaf tissues.
It's all about keeping it as a useful product in your tank until it gets to the soil or plants.
