That land would not just sit idle if not for crop insurance. Most in the corn belt have no clue what crop insurance costs and what coverage it provides when away from the heart of the corn belt. Those is the heart of the corn belt have 1/2 to 1/3 as costly of coverage and in many cases 50% more dollars coverage. Those areas that can somewhat easily afford 85% covers don’t have any idea the cost of insurance on the fringes.
It’s obvious.
