Subject: RE: Custom harvest logistics

NW Iowa
All of these ideas work fine if they stay off the interstate or avoid the scales on the interstates. When we used to move from Colorado or Nebraska to Idaho the interstate was the only way we could take. The boys (and that one woman) at those scales usually go strictly by the rules. At one scale in Wyoming I was over on the drivers and the officer at the scale actually let me move the combine back a little on the trailer till the weight was right. (rare occasion) He let out a yell over the speaker when the weight was OK and I pulled ahead to the parking lot to chain it back down. Some of those scale guys were on a harvest crew at one time or another. At another Wyoming scale I was over on the trailer axles. The scale man made me unload the combine and park it in the parking lot. I went the rest of the 700 miles to Idaho just hauling the two headers on the front of the combine trailer. Next day I had to drive all the way back to the eastern Wyoming scale to pick up the combine. I was NOT happy. At a scale in Idaho we were stuck at the scale until we had the proper equipment in the escort vehicle. At a scale in western Wyoming we were herded into a corner and chewed out by the woman officer. By the way, what's a log book?
