Iowa | Variety selection for your area is the first thing, i've gone from jerry to jay to deon and now to rushmore. Rushmore by far has improve my test weight, theres less thins in it. But yield wise it may helped it by 10 bushels on average. I've had yields as high as 140 field average but i think thats more of weather dictated. Usually i'm in the 110 to 120 bu average now. Alittle fertility, planting on bean ground not corn ground. I'm not going to throw a lot of imputs/money into an oat crop simply if they don't make milling grade then there just feed oats. Also combine setting and not going to fast it not like harvesting soybeans. If there alittle low on test weight i've ran them through a grain vac, ran them around in augers, and a quick kleen grain cleaner. I've always been able to make grade so far. I've also come to the conclusion to take these people in the midwest who talk about 150 or better yields with a grain of salt, you can hit a few homeruns but its not every year. | |
