Subject: RE: When The Magnums Were Introduced

Huntley Montana

I won? a contest for 50 free hours on a Magnum in early 90s.  Took 3 years before they could get me a new tractor. they first brought a wore out 7140 out, & I told them that was not a good representation of their tractors.  they finally got a new 7250 out to me a few years later. I had just bought a new 4960 that summer because i was afraid of the 8xxxs (stupid I was) .    Jd  let me play with a new 8300 at the same time.   The 7250 took more effort to drive than the 4960. Harder shifting, steering, & braking. They had it loaded up & we were pulling a 9 shank  JD 915V ripper with it. Most of the time the front end was in the air.  The 8300 was hooked to the same v ripper & would out pull the Magnum because the front was on the ground, didn't have the HP of the 7250.  My crew didn't like the Magnum so we never got all 50 hours used.  Visibility out the back was terrible for a chopper or Beet harvester  because of the cab filter above the rear window.  Still own the 4960 & have bought 10-12 8xxxs since.
