Not even 10% true

Almost half of those line-item savings could be attributed to a single $8 billion contract for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. But it appears that the DOGE list vastly overstated the actual intended value of that contract. A closer scrutiny of a federal database shows that a recent version of the contract was for $8 million, not $8 billion. A larger total savings number published on the site, $55 billion, lacked specific documentation.

Everyone makes mistakes, but it seems out of bounds when coupled with firings, takedowns, budget cuts, and all the other stuff.

Maybe. But many of those same organizations and people that are complaining about being targeted now kept their mouth shut or were complicit in doing those things to others that didn’t deserve it. That seemed out of bounds also at the time.

I don’t know what the answer is but this is actually proceeding in a similar fashion to how the legal system tends to work. Someone sees what looks like illegal activity and an accusation is made. That leads to a deeper investigation to determine if the illegal activity actually happened. If it did, justice is served. If innocent though, the person being accused often has their lives turned upside down, got fired, got shunned, often the public’s perception of them follows them for the rest of their lives actually, and all of the other stuff.

In a perfect world those doing the accusing would never make the mistake of accusing an innocent person. Unfortunately the world doesn’t work that way. I imagine the ratio of false accusations is quite high in the legal system also. I don’t think we can expect perfection in this case either.
