Its about the principle of the whole idea. Shows a complete lack of respect from a place we thought was a friend.
Oh, it's just bluster in getting his point across. Friends don't take unfair advantage of each other. Besides, this kind of union would be impossible to consumate. We'd have to accept a whole population bent on schmearing mayonnaise on everything and pouring vinegar on potatoes. That there just might be a step too far!
