Southeast WI | The covers here help with one of our resource concerns - water erosion on certain fields. In our environment notill wasn't quite enough without building expensive erosion control structures, however the introduction of cereal rye and reaching long term notill status makes it work.
I totally understand the limitations of covers in a sub 20" annual rain region vs the 34" we have here. You are addressing your resource concerns in a logical manner with high residue crops and eliminating the low residue ones that cause problems.
