North Central Illinois | I agree with this as there are often steps in efficiency. With organic grain crops primarily and some livestock and other small specialty projects I'm right now "right sized" for myself and one part time employee. I'm not avoiding expansion opportunities, but only interested in ones that are of very high quality at this time. I'd need to upgrade some equipment and add a full time employee to accommodate significant growth and then there'd be a larger "right size" to catch up to.
With my oldest just starting HS I'm keeping options open if any of my kids want a way in but I don't want to pressure them to take over. I'm also thinking of part time professional work I could transition to myself if one of my children wants to farm full time and there's not enough infrastructure base to fully support two families with the farm operation. | |
