brandon90 - 3/30/2025 12:56 Whats everyone shoot for for Bray P1 level on their soil tests? If you have a field thats below your goal, how much above removal rate do you apply? (I know phosphorus is stupid expensive) 250 bpa corn yield goal if it matters
Removal rate is a myth! You do realize that that came from land grant colleges who are funded by chemical and fertilizer companies right? Now then, What is your bray 1 showing that you have? It should be around 20ppm. And beings how you are asking, where did you get your soil test from? I use Midwest, and ReGen, here in Nebraska, but we are now EARTHOPTICS samplers as well.
I'm gonna tell you something that most think is total B.S, but it is just basic chemistry. I would love to see what your soluble carbon is
(in a Haney test
) and tell you that IF your carbon is low which it probably is, that carbon is the balancer of the soil. It is ampulitary, meaning it has an even number of Negative and Positive charges and it helps knock off elements on the soil collides. So usually, Calcium is pretty much always too high...or at least way over active.
(but not always
) And by the way, there is way more to just what pH is. It's depends on if it is AVAILABLE to the plant.
( buy a can of soda ,but don't open it, and try to drink it
) It's a double charged element. And phosphorus is a negatively charged element. so the Calcium will over-power your phosphate
(2+ to 1 -
) and stick it together. When you add humic acid, it will knock the charges off and release P. Try think of this as two magnets in the soil, and the negative and positive ends are stuck together. Pull them apart, and switch one end around and then try to stick them back together. you won't be able to. That's what carbon does in the soil. And, that is where,
(when the co-op tells you to buy more P, because it's all tied up, not available
) your soil test says you have enough for generations. I've been doing this since the 90's, so I really do know what I am talking about. I will not respond to any folks making fun of me. But I am telling you, this post is absolutely true. And yes I market Humic Acid...CARBON! I also market soil bacteria which contains mycorrhizae. Yes, there are bad ones out here. But a lot of the reason these products d not work is because the Sulphur and boron levels are not correct! So producers need to stop throwing these products under the bus!! And most producers do not know what SHOULD be in the soil. We have changed God's soil into dirt in the last 75 years. We depend on all those chemicals and think we can't do without them, but by doing some research you will see just how easy it is to get the dirt back to soil. Email me, and i will send you all kinds of research for you to read. I know this is a long post, but I am here to get producers to stop and think just how well all this chemical use hasn't fixed any bug/insect problems...it's made it worse. And fungicides are just costing way too much and they cause you to use more more more. Why hasn't it gotten rid of your plant diseases if it works so well? Why do producers hafta keep buying it every year? What about corn borer? Corn rootworms? If you are healthy, do you still take an antibiotic, just in case you MIGHT get sick in a month or so? We have lost common sense due to our colleges just want funding. It's just like big government, and look what Elon is finding. Just wait til Kennedy gets going...
