The automaker doesn't care what you think of changing headlights or anything else in their vehicle, as long as 99.7% of them make it through the warranty period without that issue, and after that enough of them stay working that it's not a common "talked about" problem for other buyers. The people buying them new don't really care or work on them anyway, and most won't own it past a few years when things start going bad. That's the next guys problem.

Maybe this causes issues in a decade or two with an upside down used car market, but it hasn't really happened yet. Capitalism can sort it out, either you keep buying and fixing old stuff or some automaker will start a line of vehicles with serviceability as one of the selling points.

People said the same thing about planned obsolescence and not being able to work on your own stuff in the 90s when efi got big. Now those vehicles are considered by many to be the pinnacle of reliability and easy to work on.
