In addition to what others have said, if the money isnt an issue, buy it and see if your son's settle into farming or not.
You can always sell off land, if the new land is closer, better, maybe sell of some of your original land or stop renting when you need to cut back.
Gee, you could even buy it and maybe farm part and rent out part of it till you know if your son's need land to join the farm.
