Southern, WI | this is a pic from fall when I was out checking ground conditions for tillage after a rain I spaded around the rootball and pulled it out just like this. This type of sandy clayish ground is some of the hardest to probe no matter the time of year or soil moisture so I do worry about root impediment no matter the tillage type. It doesn't appear to be struggling to get down IMO. Notice the tap root that extends a couple feet down too.
