Supposedly Henry Ford was quoted back in the heyday of the Model T saying that he'd give his cars away if he could have a monopoly on parts.   That's always been where the money is.




I'm fairly certain that the purchase price of most new vehicles is far and away more than what gets spent on repair parts (don't include labor, that doesn't go to the auto manufacturers) to said vehicle over the lifetime of the vehicle.     

Even if the vehicle is severely damaged in a wreck, it will get totaled out long long before the cost of the parts is anywhere close to the value of the vehicle.
