SW Iowa | We were really wet in May last year... didn't get long enough windows to plant and spray so I planted. I'll include pics below; think these pics were all from the same field
planted 5-19, 3.8 maturity soybean (long season for us), maybe 120-125k drop
terminated with glyphosate 5-29
post with liberty/clethodim 7-13
2nd shot lib/cleth on edges 7-29
Half of this field is really good soil and half is eroded sidehills; both sides yielded in line with expectations.
There were still some standing rye stems when harvesting. No weeds to speak of despite no residual herbicide.
Edit after picture upload to add - I don't plan to let rye get this big again if I can help it. I strongly prefer spraying either a couple days before or a couple days after planting (to give rye a chance to fully take in chem before being run over by planter, or recover some from being run over before spraying). I suspect this stemmy residue tied up a fair amount of nutrients, in form that takes quite a while to break down. The big rye also made it hard to tell what I had for soybean stand from any distance away (not an issue in this field, but I had a different one with more flat/poorly drained areas that probably should have gotten more/earlier replant than it did).
If I planned to let rye get this big, I think being prepared to terminate with roller/crimper, or herbicide + subsequent roller, to get rye down on the ground so it would block less sunlight / soybeans could grow through it quicker would be wise.
I did not include pre with initial spray pass because I didn't think anything was going to get to the soil... and kinda wanted to see what happened how much weed control the rye would provide. My fields with rye stayed similarly clean to my no till fields without cover crop that got Anthem max in the first pass. I bought generic dual to put in the first post spray of rye cover crop acres, but that ended up being late enough there were concerns with label and/or getting enough rain to activate.
