Not organic but planted 20 inch corn and beans for over 25 years. Have a 20 inch row cultivator have not used it since 2012. Weed control is easier with narrow rows... Dennis


But is that because the residuals need less time before canopy?

I could see having the wider rows and more time to get weeds out mechanically to be a bonus for organic.


You're thinking on the right track. For me I think 30" is the sweet spot for organic crops. Closer plant spacing closes the in row canopy sooner and that 4" band that I can't touch with a cultivator sweep is the hardest to keep clean. I'd rather that be 15% of the field than 25%.
