I'm sure there will be various methods and experts recommended to you, but the actual fact is that there isn't anyone out there who can do a consistent job of beating the averages.  If you forward contract or if you put it in the bin and sell later, in the long run you will do about average, just like everyone else.  Trying to beat the futures market is a fools game and anyone who can point to an above average record darn sure better quit while they're ahead. 

 

Put your time into learning the local markets.  Who offers the best bids?  When do they offer the best bids?  What sort of situations present opportunities to capitalize on a squeeze due to temporary supply interruptions?  It's actually not all that hard to beat the average when it comes to merchantizing the physical grain.
