I quick google search showed me that solar production increased 95 gwh yoy from 2017 to 2018. That is the latest number i could find.

The energy isn't going to come from coal or ng. The switch to renewable electrical production is happening rapidly. The batteries in tesla cars will soon play a role in this renewable energy. Most of those cars will hold 300 to 450 miles of travel. More than most need daily. Soon those batteries will be connected to the grid and charge when wind/solar is available, and discharge back to the grid when wind/solar is low.

In addition to the batteries used in the car, tesla is making utility scale batteries. In the next 5 years, I expect most new wind and solar farms to come with utility scale storage.

Here is read about battery:

Here is another article that points out, the $50 million (USD) paid for itself in 2.5 years. FYI, the battery has a 15 year warranty, and is expected to last 20-25 years. I think they will see like a 1.5% reduction in capacity each year after 15 years.
