Custer County, Nebraska | Tell me the future of batteries vs fuel cells.
To address those 2 issues, you have to look at the difference between an engineering problem and a basic science problem.
Engineering means taking something known and making it better, more efficient.
Basic science means discovering something first before you make it better.
Battery improvement is a basic science problem. Energy density is a persistent problem. Maybe some chemical process is lurking out there to make it comparable with the ease of liquid fuels. Scientists need to discover an easily utilized process first.
Fuel cells are an engineering problem. They are expensive and somewhat temperamental. That can be addressed by technical means. Bringing cost down and improving ease of use.
Sometime in the future they will overtake batteries by becoming cheaper and easier to power.
In that future ethanol will be the preferred fuel source. | |
