Subject: Energy topics.. Keystone XL, Lithium..etc.

It would appear that Biden/Kerry “build back better” mantra is that green jobs are good.. and the only impediment to that are cheap fossil fuels.

Along the lines that a democrat shot JR.. Barackjoe OBiden’s policy to a greener future appears to be shooting Keystone JR XL Ewing in the back.. then market forces will do their magic.

It’s a little ironic that maybe democrats have a greater faith in free market capitalism.. ushering hydraulic fracking onto the scene given high enough returns.. in spite of Obama who was not a fan of crude oil and yet production increased while he was President.

.. maybe in-spite of his presidency.

Trump supported fossil fuels including reversing the ban on Keystone XL and even though OPEC cut production to support prices in 2014 demand was not strong enough.. vs the flood of US tight shales to return prices to levels OPEC wanted.

In the 1980s we were concerned that the Japanese were going to over run the world as we imported cheap cars and electronics.

By the 1990s.. Iraq invaded Kuwait and then 2001 the US main bogeyman were Middle Eastern terrorists. A couple wars later.. fatigue sets in and thanks to Trump we’ve mostly brought troops back home to isolate behind a wall.

Now the threat is China which is going to economically over take everyone.

The Dems use “climate change” as a ruse when the real issue is to lessen reliance on fossil fuels.. which some believe will be constrained.. peak oil etc.

Green jobs or a transition away from fossil fuels.. foreign wars and unstable crude markets.

So is that possible?

Wind turbines.. solar power.. lithium batteries.. are we just trading constraints.. green house emissions from one fuel source to another? For instance are there enough lithium resources?

A main consideration is energy return on energy invested.. so are we gonna mine lithium with electric bulldozers? If we do.. does it make sense? Can we scale it?

Does it make sense to go from mining tar sands releasing carbon to mining lithium.. which.. won’t that release carbon also?

Is build back better really a better mousetrap?

Or just another scam?

As the players position themselves for big returns..

OMAHA, Neb. -- Billionaire Warren Buffett's company has taken a new stake in Canadian firm Suncor Energy (SU.TO) and trimmed its huge Apple (AAPL.O) stake.
Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRKa.N) filed a quarterly update on holdings with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.
The Omaha, Nebraska-based company said it owned 10.76 million Suncor shares at the end of last year. But these quarterly filings don't make clear who made all the investments.
Berkshire said it sold nearly 3 million Apple shares but it still held 249.6 million shares of the iPhone maker.
Investors follow what Berkshire buys and sells closely because of Buffett's successful track record. Berkshire officials don't generally comment on these quarterly filings.
Berkshire also sold the 41.4 million Oracle shares it disclosed last quarter and revealed owning 4.2 million shares of Red Hat.
