Subject: RE: Any opinions on Nat Gas?

Southeast Colorado
A local group of irrigators in our county actually formed a coop that contracts gas. They do it with the gas company though........and not on the futures board. I believe they still deal with Piasano out of Amarillo TX but am not positive. We switched over to all electric 15+ years ago so I have not joined their group. I have been to a couple of their annual meetings. It hasn't always worked out the best for the group. It's kind of like marketing grain............sometimes they do OK, and sometimes they wind up paying more for the gas than the spot market. Also it pretty much forces each user to delegate how much gas they're going to use for the whole season at the time of setting the price. I'm sure the gas company is just doing the hedging like you're thinking about yourself.
