Even tho we have burned off or baled last year of CRP and tilled it a couple of times in the fall, I and others I have watched don't seem to raise a very good crop first year out of CRP. Second year is ok and third year is pretty good. What say you"?


In my experience you are correct. First year will be so so, second year will be good and third year will be better. I’ve also had better luck with corn the first year over soybeans.
