Let’s make electricity out of carbon fuels and make the cars run on the electricity instead of running the cars on the carbon fuels and pat ourselves on the back for thinking we cleaned up the environment lol!
Have you ever been to an operating power plant, regardless of fuel type?
The ability to control pollution at a point source of that scale is a whole different ballgame than trying to manage millions of cars each with their own emissions management that has a set lifespan.
Emissions operations that work great but are impractical at small scale can be applied at plants, and are at a lot of them, depending on plant age.
