SW Minnesota | When I built my barns 26 years ago the only way to hook up an alarm system was with a phone line and a Sense-a-phone. The barns are about 1300 feet from house. shop and other buildings. The barns are on a completely different branch of the phone lines than the house. Because of neighbors going to cellphones only and a couple of building sites being abandoned over the years the hog barns are at the end of a 2.5+ mile line with no other phones. The barns have line of site to the house and the shop. I have heard that there are some kinds of wireless wifi systems that could reach that far. Has any body done this for barn alarms? The phone company has trace the line problem to some work that was done on a county black top road a 1.5 miles from the barns. They aren't getting to
the repair very fast. A WiFi system also save the monthly cost of the phone line.
