Subject: Rye in new lawn over summer

Northeast Iowa
Hello crop talk,

I have a an area that needs some summer cover, a future lawn area around new construction.
Is it an OK idea to plant some rye out there next week (northeast iowa) and then terminate it end of August to plant my real grass seeds?

Can it be mowed several times over the summer to maintain its green-ness and stay alive? If I can mow it, are there rules for how short it can be mowed to maintain it?

It seems like a decent idea because I dont think id be able to get a good grass established without water yet and all that goes into making a good lawn.
